Oz stuff...

Oz The Great and Powerful

In Road to Oz, Baum's fifth book in the series, the Wizard creates large soap bubbles at Ozma's birthday party. The soap bubbles are strong enough for the guests to stand in them and float up into the air. Eventually, the Wizard would send the guests home in these bubbles.

I passed my first benchmark test! I have an accuracy rating of 92%. They are allowing me to correct my mistakes and resubmit them to get a higher score. There are two dictations for me to transcribe for each benchmark test.

He wasn't kidding when he said they went through the books for the film. :D

I think pulling all the book stuff made the movie better!

Someone was whining on Tumblr that the whole China Town sequence was a waste of time.

Um... HELLO. First book much?? o.O

Me, too! And I'm glad it didn't pull a lot from the 39 film.

I'm finding that some people who are whining about this film don't know much about the books. Not to mention that without the China Girl, Oscar would have ran for the hills.

Yeah -- every single person who compares the movie to 1939 or Wicked should be slapped.

They wouldn't have either without the books. $&@(#

Yep! The 39 film and Wicked contradict the books as it is.

And the feminazis really need to get off their soap box about this movie. While it is about a man, he's not the only hero in the film. And let's face it, there are plenty of Theodoras out there in the real world. Glinda is stronger than Oscar, but she helps him become the man behind the curtain. So technically, the two strongest characters in the movie are women: Glinda and China Girl.

It bothers me when people see things that are not really there.

And you didn't see us getting all bent out of shape when Tin Man was all about DG! o.O

That's what fanfic is for ;)

I'm all for feminism, but too much of any form of ism is bad. China Girl is fearless, feisty, and she completely conned Oscar. So much for no strong female characters.

Oh, how I love Tin Man.

I never fell so hard for anything as I did my TM

I think the reason why I'm falling so hard for Oz is because I saw some of what I/we have established as personal Tin Man canon in this. :D

How is Biz this morning?

I was grinning like the Cheshire Cat a good many times, myself. ♥♥

She hurts ALL over. Tried to sleep on the air mattress last night, instead of the bed. Otherwise, she says she's more comfortable with having her eyes open.

Congratulations on the 92% and the chance to do even better!

Thank you! I need a score of 90% when I'm done with the course to graduate with Honors. They also want to see if I'm learning from their feedback by resubmitting the tests.

congrats on the 92%!

and the reason that the oz move didn't take much, if anything, from the 1939 film is because MGM has the rights to the '39 one and they made sure their copyrights were protected. rumor is they had someone look over everything to make sure it was different, supposedly even the colors of stuff. i heard they had to digitally alter the hair of the munchkins because it was too similar to the 1939 movie.

I watched a few interviews with Sam Raimi, and yes they did have someone watching over them. I heard they were going to make Finley blue but changed their minds. But honestly, the 39 film didn't follow the book that well. But like I said, I'm glad they didn't take a lot from the film and made Oz it's own story.

I've been rereading some of the Oz books and I'm impressed with all the elements that were taken from the books are in the Oz movie, with a few liberties.
