Stuff

So, this past August I turned 50 (I have no problem admitting that). I'm not the one to say I'm going to stop having birthdays because I'm blessed to be able to celebrate another year.

I keep saying I'm going to turn in Benchmark 3-2, but I keep trying to figure out the blanks. I don't want the grader to think I didn't try, but if I can't decipher the mumbling, what more can I do?

I withdrew Mini-Me from her Creative Photography class. They wanted assignments done in a ridiculously short period of time. On top of her AP and Honor class assignments it was too much for her. She does want to re-enroll in the course at a later date, though. We're thinking next summer when she doesn't have a full load of courses on her shoulders.

The mortgage company dropped the foreclosure case against us, and we weren't the only ones. Apparently the same company dropped a lot of their cases since they decided to offer loan modifications. It's been nearly two months since we got this news and no word from the mortgage company. It looks like our tactic worked, but they don't seem to be willing to contact us or return our calls. They did, however, tell our insurance company that we no longer live in the house. We told them that's not true. We still have our lawyer's number just in case this mortgage company tries to pull the rug out from under us.

Hey, Old Lady. ;) ♥

Add in [mumbling] so it's not blank, and it's technically right.

Aww.. At least she got a taste for it, and knows it's something she wants to do!

Wow.. that's a move right out of... well, something I won't type out loud. o.O

That's me! I'm fifty and looking nifty!

I wish I could. I also wish I could type doctor talking while eating, yawning, coughing, clearing throat or trying to speak faster than Daniel Jackson. But that's not very professional. Leaving it blank and flagging it is the industry standard.

Yeah, she was enjoying it.

I hear ya!

That's not at all a set up for future potential issues with the mortgage company, who seems pretty much like they could care less. Unless there's money involved. Then it seems they still aren't too excited about it.

Maybe they'll go under soon?

Yeah, we have no idea what the heck is going on. Even though we're no longer paying our lawyer, he still wants us to keep him up to date on what's going on, and if someone suddenly shows up at the house to evict us he told us to call him.

That could be bad or good. We've had such a tough time with this company, we don't know if another one will be better.

Sucks all around. Either way, hopefully you're keeping your eyes open for another place in a nicer neighborhood. :)

We can't afford it. Hubby's horrible pay from his last job drained our savings account. We also ended up having to pay bills, groceries, gas, etc. on credit cards, now those payments are high. We're going to start calling our creditors to see if they'll work with us to bring those payments down. If not, bankruptcy might be on the horizon. But I'm sure our creditors will work with us.

Hopefully things will start looking up. :)

Oh, man—telling the insurer that you don't live there sounds suspicious. The mortgage probably requires that you have insurance. Did the insurance company specify that you have to live in the house, or you don't get that insurance? My brother was closing on his house when he found out that his insurance company required that he live there. He had planned to rent it for a bit to a close friend and then move in later, so he ended up changing plans very suddenly and moving in within 30 days.

Doing FLVS in the summer is much easier. The courses seem to vary wildly in how strict or loose they are about deadlines. My daughter took a math course that basically required she do something online very two weeks, but she could do the bulk of the course over spring break or in the summer (and did big chunks each of those times). Her PE course required submitting data every week.

If you can't figure out the blanks, is trying again really going to help? It sounds as though you have passed the point of diminishing returns. Perhaps it's time to flag the blanks and move on?

Good to see someone proud to be 50! It's just a few more years for me.

Yeah, we have to have insurance as long as we still owe on the house. They didn't say if we have to live in the house. Oh, that's a bummer. I wonder if all insurance companies require you to live in the house.

Her Spanish class isn't as strict as the photography class. She has to submit something every two weeks, too. She also has a month to finish a module, which is less stressful.

We have two dictations to transcribe for each Benchmark, and this is the second one. I already passed the first one. While working with a friend I managed to figure out another part. The graders do give us hints when we make a mistake, and they do that to see how well we follow directions. But yes, I do need to just turn it in, but I'm also too stubborn to turn it in with blanks. I want to figure this out. At this point, it's a challenge.

It really is all in the head. Getting older doesn't have to be a bad thing.

I don't think all insurers require you to live in the house, but many do for ordinary mortgages.

I had hoped that there would be some magic age where I'd be confident and comfortable and feel that I knew what I was doing. I'm still hoping it's there ahead of me—but not too far ahead.

Good for you. I'm having trouble with turning 42 recently.

You know at 50 you can be on the cover of the AARP magazine? :P

Don't let it get to you. Embrace it!

That would be cool! I'm a card-carrying member of AARP, baby!
